July 22, 2024

On July 22, 2024, PT Sinar Meadow International Indonesia (PT SMI Indonesia) hosted a collaborative knowledge-sharing session titled “Synergizing Lean and Industry 4.0 for Operational Excellence.” The event brought together approximately 40 participants from PT SMI’s team, demonstrating a strong interest in advancing operational excellence through the integration of continuous improvement and smart technology.

Opening and Lean 4.0 Insights

The session opened with a warm welcome by Ms. Yasika, representing PT SMI Indonesia. The first segment was delivered by Dr. Tanika D. Sofianti, who emphasized the importance of aligning Lean principles with Industry 4.0 technologies to remain competitive in the modern industrial era.

Dr. Tanika highlighted how traditional Lean tools—focused on eliminating waste and streamlining processes—can be amplified through smart technologies such as IoT, Big Data Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence. Drawing from recent assessments, she presented actionable recommendations, including initiating improvements through measurable activities and investing in the development of monitoring tools and performance dashboards.

Industry 4.0 Perspective and Case-Based Learning

In the second session, Dr. Henry Nasution provided a comprehensive introduction to Industry 4.0, explaining how emerging technologies are reshaping conventional manufacturing practices. His session explored how organizations can transition into smart manufacturing environments by leveraging digital tools for real-time data, automation, and advanced analytics.

Through interactive discussion and compelling case studies, Dr. Nasution illustrated how the integration of Lean thinking with Industry 4.0 technologies has successfully improved cost efficiency, quality, and productivity across various sectors. Participants were actively engaged and encouraged to reflect on how these strategies could be applied within their own teams.

Fostering Knowledge-Based Communities

The session concluded with an open forum where participants shared their thoughts and questions, further enriching the discussion and collaborative learning experience. The event showcased not only technical insights but also a strong commitment to building communities of practice within the industrial landscape.
